October 4, 2002 This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Have you ever heard the word "exegete"‹spelled e-x-e-g-e-t-e? Well, it's a term that dates back to ancient Greece. An exegete was someone whose duty it was to instruct humankind on the will of the gods. As the gods spoke through their oracles, the exegete would interpret the information and then disseminate it to the common man. From exegete we get the term "exegesis," which is defined as an examination, explanation and critical analysis expressed through leadership, wisdom and experience. So, now when I tell you about the company eXegeSys, spelled e-capital X-e-g-e-capital S-y-s, you already have some idea of what the company is all about.
Paul Dorius and Steve Quinn founded the Salt Lake-based company back in 1994. As former employees of Hewlett-Packard, they wanted to promote and enhance a business software solution originally developed by Hewlett-Packard. The software, which was created to ultimately help companies optimize their bottom lines, was known as Manufacturing Management II and was developed as an open system so that upgrades could be possible, even in a highly customized environment, without undue expense or the disruption of normal business operation. The software became popular among companies and ranked among the top five business applications in manufacturing systems magazines.
But in 1992, HP shifted away from being a solutions provider to focusing on providing platforms. As a result, eXegeSys was formed to fill the niche left open and eventually purchased the popular management solutions software. Now, eXegeSys has renamed the software eXegetic Resource Planning and has developed a customer base of close to 700 companies around the globe. eXegeSys provides its customers with the solutions they need to operate more efficiently and is also working to be a leader in helping people understand and use open systems technologies.
