RENO, Nev. (AP) — A federal jury has convicted an armed robber who killed an 80-year-old bank customer during a hold-up in Reno in 2013. Van McDuffie, now 68, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison after he was found guilty in U.S. District Court on Thursday of bank robbery with a dangerous weapon resulting in death.

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence touted Donald Trump as a champion for the Constitution and decried Clinton as the epitome of establishment politics in a Henderson campaign rally. The Indiana governor held a town hall-style event Wednesday at the Henderson Convention Center after visiting with the city's police.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada state Attorney General Adam Laxalt says he's opposing a background check initiative supported by gun control advocates on the November ballot. Laxalt came out Wednesday against Question 1, with a statement through the National Rifle Association saying it would cost Nevada residents "time, money and freedom," but wouldn't keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says firefighters protected Lake Tahoe's famously clear water as they quickly snuffed out flames shooting out of a docked tourist cruise boat. The agency said Wednesday that the Tahoe Queen had 800 gallons of diesel fuel and 100 gallons of hydraulic oil on board when the fire broke out Tuesday. None leaked into the lake.
