They came this week from across the globe to try to beat the clock _ some topping speeds of 400 mph. While they're glad to be back at Speed Week, which runs through Friday, it's a bittersweet return after a hiatus marked by disappointments and accusations that federal land managers have failed to protect the unique area.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Wildlife Board is joining a chorus of state-level opposition to the proposed Bears Ears National Monument in southeastern Utah. The board sent a letter to U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell saying the designation could impact hunting, fishing and thriving populations of elk, deer and bighorn sheep.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake County authorities have seized an estimated $2 million worth of methamphetamine in what could be the state's largest-ever meth bust. Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell says officers acting on a tip from the Department of Homeland Security discovered 68 pounds of meth after pulling over a vehicle along Interstate 15 on Tuesday.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Brigham Young University has made adjustments to its honor code after a complaint filed with the American Bar Association accused the school of discriminating against students who leave the Mormon church. The October complaint from the activist group FreeBYU had sought amendments to the honor code to allow Mormon students to change their religious beliefs without being expelled from the university.
