LOWER LAKE, Calif. (AP) — A California man is suspected of starting numerous fires in Lake County over the past year. On Monday, 40-year-old Damin Anthony Pashilk was arrested on arson charges for allegedly sparking a wildfire that exploded over the weekend, destroying more than 175 homes, business and other structures in the town of Lower Lake. Officials say the blaze has caused more than $10 million in damage.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The police chief in Milwaukee says the city is calmer, two days after the fatal police shooting of a black man that led to rioting. Chief Edward Flynn says at least six people were arrested Monday night after some "heated confrontations," but there's been no destruction of property. There's also a 10 p.m. curfew for everyone under 18.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Seven people have now died in flooding in Louisiana. The latest victim is a man in his 50s who police say accidentally drowned in Baton Rouge. On Monday Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards visited hard-hit areas in the Lafayette region of the south central part of the state.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — American gymnast Simone Biles could earn a fourth Olympic gold medal when she competes Tuesday in the floor exercise. On Monday, Biles earned a bronze in the balance beam final after she wobbled. The U.S. women's team begins knockout play against Japan when the two teams play in the quarterfinals. And Jamaican Usain Bolt returns to the track in his quest for more gold in the 200 meters.
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (AP) — A funeral will be held Tuesday for a New York City woman who was killed while going for a run near her mother's home in Massachusetts. The body of 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte was found in the woods in Princeton. Police say they've received hundreds of tips, but have made no arrests in her death. Marcotte was an account manager for Google in New York City. Her funeral will be in Leominster (LEH'-mihn-stur), Massachusetts.
