CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Firefighters in Carson City say they have 80 percent containment of a wildfire that was sparked by target shooters, burned about 250 acres and prompted the brief evacuation of dozens of homes at the nearby Stewart Indian Colony.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Sunday's fire was reported by a pair of 21-year-old men who were shooting on the west side of C Hill in Carson City just before it broke out about 11:20 a.m.
No structures were damaged and the evacuation orders for about 60 homes were lifted by Sunday evening.
Sierra Front fire officials said two firefighters suffered bee stings but required no medical treatment and no one else was hurt.
Furlong said Monday target shooting is legal in the area so the two men did nothing wrong.
Full containment was expected Monday night.
