BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana authorities say more than 11,000 people are in shelters because of days of intense rain and severe flooding. And more are coming from new parts of Baton Rouge. Its suburbs and other areas have taken on water draining from other hard-hit areas. The storm is blamed for at least six deaths. Thousands have had to be evacuated.

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — The international humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders says an airstrike hit a hospital it supports in Yemen, killing at least 11 people and wounding at least 19 others. The hospital is near the Houthi (HOO'-thee) rebel stronghold of Saada, where teams are attending to the wounded. The conflict in Yemen pits an internationally-recognized government backed by a Saudi-led coalition against the rebels.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a speech about national security, Donald Trump has called for "extreme vetting" and an ideological test for immigrants who seek admission to the United States. Meanwhile, Vice-President Joe Biden campaigned with Hillary Clinton today in Scranton, Pennsylvania, his boyhood home.

LEESPORT, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania authorities say a man bought a gun one day after police responded to a domestic dispute at his home and used it less than three weeks later to kill his wife, three children and then himself. Investigators say Megan Short told police she was afraid of her husband and was in the process of moving out of their home in Sinking Spring, about 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia.

NEW YORK (AP) — An internal New York Police Department document obtained by The Associated Press finds that a chain-reaction panic at Kennedy airport yesterday could have been caused by people watching the Olympics on TV monitors. The report says there were boisterous celebrations to the victory of Jamaica's Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man. A false report about gunfire caused a panicked evacuation.
