LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 30-year-old ex-convict has been deemed fit for trial in a death penalty case stemming from a car-to-car shooting that killed two California women and critically wounded a man in February near the Las Vegas Strip.
A prosecutor said Monday that a Clark County District Court judge ruled Friday that Omar Jamal Talley's trial can go forward.
Talley's lawyer, William Skupa, was out of town and unable to immediately respond Monday to messages.
Trial was placed on hold in June to let state psychiatrists evaluate whether Talley was mentally ill or competent for trial.
Police and prosecutors say an argument in a parking structure at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood preceded the shooting.
A judge scheduled an Oct. 6 date for Talley's arraignment and to set a trial date.
