RAYMOND, Maine (AP) — A group of Maine residents say they're dissatisfied with their town's leadership and are seeking to secede.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/2b71G7W ) reports that some residents of the town of Gray want to secede and become a part of the town of Raymond. It would require signatures from homeowners, a referendum and the support of the Maine Legislature.
Little Sebago Lake separates their neighborhood from Gray and many are unhappy with its leaders and higher property tax rate. They also say residents get all their services from Raymond.
If The Gray Secession Committee succeeds, a chunk of valuable lakefront property would shift to Raymond.
Gray Town Council Chairman Matthew Sturgis says his preference, and likely the council's, is to keep Gray intact.
