LOWMAN, Idaho (AP) — Fire officials say two structure protection groups are in place in the central Idaho towns of Lowman and Garden Valley on Monday as burnouts and fire line construction continues in an attempt to contain a 115-square-mile wildfire.
Residents of about 125 homes in the area have been told to make preparations for a potential evacuation as expected hot and dry conditions move through the area.
The Banks-Lowman Road remains closed west of Lowman but State Highway 21 is open.
About 1,800 firefighters are battling the blaze that is 40 percent contained.
Most of the containment is on the southern portion of the fire while the flames on the northern portion and western portion have been advancing.
Fire officials say the fire moved several miles west in the last day.
