CLEVELAND (AP) — A Chicago museum official says there is no agreement to display the recreation center gazebo where 12-year-old Tamir Rice was fatally shot by a Cleveland police officer while playing with a pellet gun.
Cleveland City Council last week agreed to accept donated services to dismantle and store the gazebo. A councilman said the gazebo was expected to be displayed at the Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago. A museum spokeswoman says acquiring the gazebo is being discussed but no decisions have been made.
An attorney says Tamir's mother, Samaria Rice, wants the gazebo to become a symbol for what happened to her son in November 2014.
A misunderstanding was blamed earlier this year for incorrect reports that the Smithsonian Institution's black history museum in Washington wanted the gazebo.
