SALT LAKE CITY — Bees third baseman Kaleb Cowart had a good night Sunday evening. It is just too bad it wasn’t enough to help win a ballgame. Despite hitting a solo home run and two doubles, the Round Rock Express came away with a 6-2 victory over the Salt Lake Bees at Smith’s Ballpark.

It was the fourth straight loss for the Bees, who fell to 55-64 on the season. The Bees have 22 games left on the season, including 13 at Smith’s Ballpark. Round Rock improved to 60-62 and will go for a season sweep against the Bees on Monday night.

The Bees got on the board first in the bottom of the third when Brendan Ryan scored on an RBI double by Daniel Nava that made it 1-0.

Cowart made it 2-0 for the Bees in the bottom of the third with a solo shot over the right field fence that ricocheted off a picnic table just to the right of the scoreboard.

However, the Round Rock offense woke up in the top of the fifth. After being held to just one hit through four innings by Bees starting pitcher Chris Jones, the Express scored five runs in the fifth on four hits, including back-to-back RBI doubles by Hanser Alberto and Brett Nicholas that made it 5-2.

Round Rock tacked on an insurance run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Nicholas that put the final tally at 6-2.

Jones took the loss for the Bees on the mound. He gave up five runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks, while striking out six.

The two teams will meet in the finale of the four-game set on Monday evening at Smith’s Ballpark with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Rehabbing

First baseman C.J. Cron is currently 0-for-10 with a walk during his current rehab assignment after coming off a broken wrist he suffered against the Baltimore Orioles on July 8.

The Freaky franchise is starting on Monday

Tim Lincecum, who has been tabbed “The Freak” and who is also a three-time World Series champion and two-time Cy Young award winner will start for the Bees against Round Rock on Monday night at Smith’s Ballpark. Kyle McDonald is an avid sports fan especially for the Chicago Cubs and the Utah Valley University Wolverines. He is currently a communication major at UVU and will graduate in the spring of 2017.
