MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has activated the state's National Guard to help law enforcement in Milwaukee if violence there persists. At least four businesses were burned and one police officer was hurt last night in violence that broke out a few hours after an officer shot a man who fled a traffic stop and who police said had a handgun. The governor praised citizens who showed up today to clean up the north-side neighborhood where the violence took place. He called for "continued peace and prayer."

EASTMAN, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in Georgia are searching for the person who fatally shot a police officer last night in the small central Georgia city of Eastman. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations says 24-year-old Royheem Delshawn Deeds is wanted in the death of Eastman Patrol Officer Tim Smith. The bureau says Smith was responding to a suspicious person call when he encountered the suspect, got out of his patrol car and was shot.

MEDFORD, Okla. (AP) — Three small earthquakes have been recorded in northern Oklahoma during the weekend. The U.S. Geological Survey reports the strongest was a magnitude 3.1 quake recorded this morning six miles east of Medford. No injuries or damage are reported. The number of earthquakes of that magnitude or greater has skyrocketed from a few dozen in 2012 to more than 900 last year. Scientists have linked the increase to the underground disposal of wastewater from oil and gas production.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — American swimmer Ryan Lochte (LAHK'-tee) says armed robbers posing as policemen put a gun to his head and took his money in Rio de Janeiro. He says the robbers pulled over a taxi he and three other members of the U.S. swim team were riding in early today as they headed to the athletes village. Lochte says they were told to get down on the ground. He says the robbers took money and his wallet, but left his cell phone. Lochte described the late-night encounter to NBC's "Today" show.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — American Simone Biles has added a third gold medal to her haul in Rio, easily winning the women's vault final. Biles is the first American woman to win Olympic gold on vault. Her three gold medals in Rio also are the most by an American female gymnast in one Olympics. Biles will have a chance at more gold later this week when she competes in the event finals on balance beam and floor exercise.
