EASTMAN, Ga. (AP) — A suspicious person call turned into the fatal shooting of a police officer in Georgia and authorities southeast of Macon say the suspect is still at large. Special agent Scott Whitley of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations tells The Associated Press that Eastman Patrol Officer Tim Smith was fatally shot about 9:30 p.m. yesterday.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Violence on Milwaukee's north side after a man was shot and killed by police lasted several hours before it began to subside. The mayor said the uprising was driven by social media messages instructing people to congregate in the area. Protesters skirmished with officers and set fire to at least four businesses. Police say the man who was shot had a gun.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A storm that's been drenching southeast Louisiana is forecast to head toward the central and northern part of the state while parts of southern Mississippi are under a state of emergency. Yesterday, emergency crews plucked motorists from cars stranded by high water and pulled others from inundated homes on their way to at least 2,000 rescues. Three people are dead and one is missing.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. (AP) — Evacuations have been ordered near Lower lake in Northern California due to a fast-moving wildfire. Firefighters aided by water- and retardant-dropping air tankers are trying to keep the fire away from homes north of the lake. The blaze is 15 percent contained. A central California wildfire that broke out Saturday forced the evacuation of 135 homes.

IRBIL, Iraq (AP) — Another offensive is targeting Islamic State group fighters who currently hold a cluster of Iraqi villages east of militant-held Mosul.
