MILWAUKEE (AP) — The violence stretched past midnight and at least four businesses burned on Milwaukee's north side after a police shooting that left a man dead. Mayor Tom Barrett says the area is starting to calm down. Police say a 23-year-old man was fleeing a traffic stop and was armed with a gun when he was shot.

NEW YORK (AP) — Members of the Bangladeshi Muslim community served by a Queens mosque say they want New York City police to treat the shooting deaths of an imam and his friend as a hate crime. More than 100 people attended a rally Saturday night. Police say the victims were shot in the head as they walked after Saturday prayers. Police say the suspect was a man in a dark polo shirt and shorts who fled.

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — Five people, including three in a church van, were injured by a shooter in Joplin, Missouri. Police say a suspect is in custody. A woman who was in the church van says the group didn't know what was happening when the gunfire erupted. She says one of the bullets hit her husband's lung, and that he's hospitalized in critical condition.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities have told residents of a Northern California lake community to clear out ahead of a fast-moving wildfire that's threatening scores of homes. The wildfire south of Lower Lake, a town of about 1,300, spread to about 400 acres in mere hours. Firefighters aided by water- and retardant-dropping air tankers, have the blaze about 15 percent contained.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Michael Phelps ends what could be his final Olympics by claiming another gold medal with his 4x100 medley relay teammates. It's the 23rd gold medal of his career. Puerto Rico won its first ever gold medal -- the women's singles tennis final. And Jamaica got its first gold with an emphatic win in the women's 100-meter sprinting event. The men's 100 final Sunday features superstar Usain Bolt.
