NEW YORK (AP) — Police do not have a motive in the shooting deaths of a New York City imam and his associate. The NYPD says the 55-year-old Muslim leader and his 64-year-old associate were shot in the back of the head as they left their mosque in Queens this afternoon. The mosque serves a community of Bangladeshi immigrants.

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — A woman who was in a church van with three other people when it was fired upon early today in Joplin, Missouri, says the group didn't know what was happening when the gunfire erupted. Vicki Eby told KOAM-TV one bullet hit her husband's lung, and that he's hospitalized in critical condition. Two other people were also wounded in a pickup truck nearby. A suspect is in custody, but authorities say formal charges haven't been filed.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Officials say a woman is in critical condition after a large tree branch fell 50 feet and hit her on the head while she and her children were visiting a San Francisco park. The San Francisco Chronicle reports the 36-year-old woman was hit by a 100-pound branch when she was at Washington Square park in the North Beach neighborhood with her two small children Friday afternoon. An arborist is investigating why the branch gave way.

NEDERLAND, Texas (AP) — Federal investigators are reviewing whether a welding contractor working on a crude oil pipeline connection under construction at a southeast Texas refinery might have helped ignite a flash fire that injured seven people last night. A Sunoco spokesman says seven contract workers were injured, four of them critically. The Sunoco refinery is located about 10 miles southeast of Beaumont.

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is advising fellow Democrats to change their cellphone numbers and not let family members read their text messages. Her warning comes after personal and official information of Democratic House members and congressional staff was posted online. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has hired a cybersecurity firm to investigate the hacking of the DCCC's computers.
