HEBER, Wasatch County — A man and a woman were hospitalized following an accident on U.S. 40 Saturday morning.
At 10:47 a.m., a 2007 Honda VT2 motorcycle and a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse were traveling westbound on U.S. 40 near mile marker 37, according to Utah Highway Patrol. The driver of the Chevy was traveling behind the motorcycle and merged into the oncoming travel lane to pass another vehicle and the motorcycle. As the Chevy attempted to pass, the driver of the motorcycle began to merge into the oncoming travel lane in an attempt to pass the vehicle traveling in front of it.
The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Chevy, causing the motorcycle to lose control and crash, according to UHP.
Two passengers of on the motorcycle were ejected, and both sustained road rash injuries and possible other unknown injuries. They were transported to Intermountain Medical Center by helicopter. Both occupants of the motorcycle were wearing helmets.
Both directions of U.S. 40 at the location of the accident were closed down for approximately 40 minutes while the medical helicopters were on scene.
