THIS IS LARRY MANKIN, PRESIDENT OF THE SALT LAKE CHAMBER, WITH YOUR METRO BUSINESS REPORT

Several Salt Lake businesses report personnel changes. Psomas, an engineering consulting firm, announced that employee Dee Hansen has been appointed by President Bush to chair a three-state water commission. The University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business welcomes Olivia Liu Sheng to its Information Systems Department. Jan Price is the new President of the National Speakers Association Utah Chapter. Aram Friedman has joined Evans & Sutherland from the Hayden Planetarium Rose Center in New York. Mr. Friedman will head the sales campaign for Evans & Sutherland’s Digistar® 3 dome theater system.

Prevent Blindness Utah would like to remind parents to have their children’s eyes examined for school. Five percent of children that Prevent Blindness Utah screened last year had eye problems.

Here’s a Chamber History Fact: When long-time Chamber president Gus Backman was first hired in 1930, his starting salary was $8,500 dollars. That is $86,021.51 in today’s dollars.

Many things happened 100 years ago. For example it is the 100th anniversary of founding of the International Alliance for Women’s Suffrage. It’s also the Salt Lake Chamber’s 100th Anniversary and on September 14th we are coming together for a Century Celebration Gala at the Grand America. Stoel Rives and Questar sponsor the event. At the Gala we will honor over 100 of the people who gave extraordinary volunteer service to the Chamber. Call the Chamber now to reserve your space at 328-5050 or see us on the web at saltlakechamber.org.
