MIDDLESBROUGH, England (AP) — After a seven-year wait Middlesbrough earned a point in its first Premier League game since 2009 with a 1-1 draw against Stoke on Saturday.
Middlesbrough took the lead as early as the ninth minute at the Riverside Stadium with on-loan striker Alvaro Negredo able to climb highest to scramble a header past Stoke goalkeeper Shay Given.
Stoke equalized through a curling free kick in the 67th from Switzerland midifielder Xherdan Shaqiri, which clipped the inside of the post on the way in.
