FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Republican Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed the co-chairwoman of his inaugural committee to the University of Kentucky board of trustees.

Bevin announced Friday that he has appointed Kelly Knight Craft to replace board member Oliver K. Gannon, whose term has expired. Craft is a major Republican fundraiser and was the co-chairwoman of Bevin's inaugural committee last year along with her husband, Alliance Resource Partners CEO Joe Craft.

Kelly Craft was one of 19 appointments to university and college boards Bevin announced Friday. All of Bevin's appointments replaced board members whose terms had expired.

Earlier this year, Bevin abolished the University of Louisville board of trustees and replaced it with a new board. Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear sued Bevin, saying his order was illegal. That case is pending in Franklin County Circuit Court.
