EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Muhammad Wilkerson is sitting out the New York Jets' preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, two days after being activated from the physically unable to perform list.
Wilkerson appeared to be a long shot to play Thursday night after participating only in positional drills at practice Tuesday. Coach Todd Bowles didn't rule him out for the game but said he wanted to see how the player felt Wednesday. Wilkerson broke his right leg in the season finale against Buffalo last December.
Nose tackle Steve McLendon was the only unexpected inactive for the Jets. He had no listed injury and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Jarvis Jenkins.
As expected, running back Matt Forte (hamstring) is among those sitting out. He was hurt while working out on his own before training camp began.
