RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — At the Rio Olympics, Michael Phelps has won his 20th gold medal. He avenged his defeat at the 2012 London Games by winning the 200-meter butterfly. Fellow American Katie Ledecky won gold in the 200-meter freestyle. Ledecky is now two-thirds of the way to becoming only the second female after Debbie Meyer in 1968 to capture the three longest freestyle events at a single Olympics.

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Today was the second anniversary of the police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. A few hundred people gathered for a memorial service, including Brown's father, who said his son's death "opened the eyes of the world" to concerns about law enforcement's treatment of black people. A state grand jury declined to press charges against Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Brown, and the U.S. Justice Department later cleared him.
