It came down to a playoff in the Siegfried and Jensen Utah Open yesterday at Oakridge Country Club in Farmington.

Not only will yesterdays tournament go down as one of the most intriguing opens in Utah history, the playoff matched up two family members, featured a 20-foot birdie putt to force a playoff and a 6-foot birdie putt to win. To quote Mike Sorensen from the Deseret News, "Wow, what a story." He was absolutely right.

Bruce Summerhays, 64, had a one shot lead over nephew Boyd Summerhays going into the final hole. Boyd made a 20-foot putt for birdie to tie Uncle Bruce and force a sudden death playoff.

In the playoff, Bruce, who had never won the Utah Open in his career, sank a 6-foot birdie putt on the first hole to win the tournament.
