RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A white man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a black man after apparently calling 911 to complain about "hoodlums" outside his house.

Police say it happened early Sunday morning when 39-year-old Chad Cameron Copley fired a shotgun from inside his garage and hit the victim.

Twenty-year-old Kouren-Rodney Bernard Thomas suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Jail records show that Copley is being held on a murder charge.

Police released an audio recording of a 911 call in which a male caller tells a dispatcher that he's "locked and loaded" and preparing to go outside. He says he is on neighborhood watch and asks them to send police.

The caller says: "We've got a bunch of hoodlums out here racing."
