Today is the first day of the convention and the day begins with a Utah State Delegation breakfast at the hotel where all of our delegation is staying. The main reason for the breakfast is to gather everyone together to distribute credentials to the convention. That way if a delegate is absent an alternate will be issued the credential so Utah will have a complete delegation representing the state. Also at the breakfast announcements, schedule changes, transportation times and routes are provided and typically one or more guest speakers will attend. Guests are from the candidates' campaigns and other state delegations. Often the mayor and governor of the host state will stop by. The press also often attends the delegation breakfast to interview delegates for stories for TV, radio and papers back home. This morning, my boys had the chance to switch things around on the press and they interviewed Rich Piatt from KSL TV about the Press role in covering conventions and politics in general. They had a great time and I think Rich enjoyed it too. They got a great story for their podcast.
