THIS IS MICHAEL DE GROOTE FROM THE SALT LAKE CHAMBER WITH YOUR METRO BUSINESS REPORT

The Chamber’s Downtown Committee announced principles for downtown development. One Guideline is: “The synergy of corporate, nonprofit, education, and government leadership located in the downtown area is a major factor to the success of the downtown community. The Salt Lake Chamber, its development partners, and Salt Lake City government will encourage new corporate headquarters to locate in the downtown area, and will support existing corporate headquarters to remain in the downtown area. The Chamber will encourage all new government offices, where possible, to be located in the downtown area.”

ArosNet, a local Internet service provider, announced the availability of SpamAssassin, a software that controls unwanted email.

Salt Lake City International Airport statistics report 1,454,681 passengers used the airport in April. This is down 5.4 percent from last year.

Here’s a Chamber History Fact: The first banquet the Chamber ever held was in November of 1902. Examples of some of the toasts given during the evening were to “The Great Republic,” “The Railroad Situation,” “The City’s Water Supply,” and, my favorite, a toast to “Utah as a Sanitarium.”

This month's Business After Hours networking event is for the birds! We will meet on June 27 at Tracy Aviary at 5 p.m. for prizes, great food, and networking. The Singing Cricket Café also sponsors the evening. For more information, call the Chamber at 328-5050 or see us on the web at saltlakechamber.org.
