Quick, here’s a test question: What’s the single greatest necessity of life? That’s fairly easy. It’s air.
What’s the second greatest necessity? According to Lindon-based Power Innovations, it’s power. Think about it: without power, technology doesn’t work, operations cease, and customers don’t get service. Yet for our ultimate dependence on power, most of us consider it as plentiful as the air we breathe—abundant, pure, and always available.
But as Power Innovations can tell you, this is far from the truth. Last year, thousands of companies in California were severely impacted by shortages and variations in their power supply. Business Week recently reported that poor power quality costs US businesses more than $26 billion a year.
And closer to home, the current 2002 Olympics staff knew that any blip or outage in its systems’ power supplies could have disastrous results. That’s why the Olympics chose Power Innovations to provide its patented UPQ (Uninterruptible Power Quality) systems to protect more than 400 computer systems that provide the scoring results for all of the Winter 2002 Games.
