This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Bob and Bill Carter are two brothers who enjoy life as businessmen and sportsmen in beautiful Moab.

The Southeastern Utah Appliance Center is where they make their living but their avocation with fishing boats and as fishing enthusiasts are where they also derive a great deal of pleasure.

An aunt and uncle of the Carter's originally started the company. The boys took over the business in June of 1993 and were encouraged to secure a larger location.

Southeastern Utah Appliance Center is located south of town in a building that was once the Sears outlet. When Sears closed, the Carter family decided it would be good to utilize the space and capitalize on what was the biggest seller at Sears. The large company had done a great deal of business by selling appliances and so it was decided to concentrate on that commodity.

The company sells, services and repairs all major appliances. They also have a large parts department. I saw Maytag, Amana, Jenair, Thermador, Viking and Magic Chef items as I wandered through the showroom. I also saw Dovre Heatalator Cast Iron Stoves and Diamond Mattresses. There was also a big display of vacuums.

Bob and Bill told me that business right now is very good. There is a great deal of new home construction in Grand County. But that’s not all. Construction in the hospitality business, mainly motels and restaurants, has also added to their sales. The overall economic climate in the area has been good for the appliance and housewares business.

When not in the store the owners love to hit the fishing spots in Utah and Colorado. Bob was originally born in Grand Junction, Colo., and Bill in Moab, but both men have lived most of their lives in Moab. They know all of the hot fishing spots in McPhie Lake, Cortez, Colo. and the Delores River in Colorado as well as Recapture Lake and Lake Powell in southeastern Utah.

Life is good for the Carters. They do what they love and love what they do. You can't do better than that.

For Zions Bank, Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
