(KSL News) A man convicted of killing his girlfriend won't get his sentence until he undergoes a diagnostic evaluation.
A judge made that decision today.
Parley Jeffs Dutson could face a sentence of 15 years to life in prison in connection with the death of Kara Hopkins.
Dutson shot Hopkins in the head at a party last August after she refused his sexual advances. Members of Hopkins' family attended the hearing today and said they were disappointed with the judge's actions.
Dutson's sentencing has been rescheduled for Oct. 24.
