SALT LAKE CITY — A drive-by shooting resulted in one man suffering a minor injury early Sunday.

About 2 a.m., several people were attending a get-together at a home in the 100 East block of Kensington Avenue.

"They said a minivan drove past, got to the end of the road, did a U-turn and came back. And when it came back it stopped right in front of the house, the slide door slides open and witnesses hear a couple of gunshots, both of which go through the front window of the house," said Salt Lake Police Lt. Derek Diamond.

A 25-year-old man inside the house suffered what police described as a "superficial" gunshot wound to the abdomen. The man refused to be taken by ambulance to a hospital, but later had a friend drive him to be checked out, Diamond said.

About eight people were inside and outside the house when the shots were fired, he said. Witnesses said earlier in the evening, there was a disagreement with some guests at the house.

"They had left the scene, so (witnesses) are speculating they may have come back in a van, but they don't know for sure," Diamond said.

Salt Lake gang detectives investigated the shooting, but Diamond did not know if the shooting was gang-related. It was unknown Sunday if the man who was shot was the intended target or if he was hit at random.

Police had little suspect information on Sunday. Anyone with information can call police at 801-799-3000.
