Shelley Osterloh ReportingFree Dental Care? Free health Screenings? Free immunizations? Car seats? Bike Helmets? It's all free at the Care Fair.
The Jr. League of Salt Lake City is presenting the Care Fair. Last year, 4,000 people took advantage of this one-stop health care event.
There is child care here if Mom's want some time for a breast exam or pap smear. There are a half dozen dental chairs, and people doing screenings and sealants, which is preventative care for children's teeth. In fact, they need more dentists and technicians to volunteer tomorrow.
There are mental health screenings. You can have your blood pressure or cholesterol checked, and they have lots of car seats to give away. If a child has an immunization here, and the family doesn't have a good car seat, the highway patrol will fit it in your car for you.
Gold medal speedskater Derek Parra was there for the grand opening this morning. He says, growing up as a poor kid in California, he knows how important community events like this are.
Derek Parra, Olympic Gold Medalist: "In anybody's life, health care is important, especially for our children. And if you can't afford health care, this is a great benefit. And the Jr. League of Salt Lake City had done a great job."
The Care Fair runs Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm at the Horizonte School, that's 1235 S. Main Street.
