BEIJING (AP) -- Sunday night, the U.S. men's beach volleyball team of Sean Rosenthal and Jake Gibb endured heavy rain en route to defeating the Netherlands' Bram Ronnes and Emiel Boersma 21-16, 21-15.
"(The rain) concerned me, but we don't care," Utah native Gibb said. "We're going to play in anything. We're going to play in hail, sleet, snow; we're just happy to be here."
His partner said despite the wet weather, he still enjoyed playing in his first Olympic match.
"The fans stayed out during the rain," Rosenthal said. "All the fans that were there, they were loud and you could just feel the energy. I can't wait to play when the stands are full."
