Turkish author Duygu Asena died on Sunday (30 July) in Istanbul's American Hospital after losing her fight against a brain tumour.

According to the hospital, the author was admitted on 27 July suffering from respiratory problems and a high fever. Asena was 60 years old.

Asena was a well known campaigner for women's rights in Turkey and is best known for her book entitled Woman Has No Name.

According to The Associated Press, Woman Has No Name broke sales records when it was printed in 1987, but was banned by the government which said it was too lewd and obscene. A two-year court battle resulted in the ban being lifted and the book went on to be made into a movie.
