West Valley police are hoping witnesses will help them find details behind a shooting that left a man critically wounded.
Police say they started getting calls last night. Motorists were telling them an injured man was walking along Bangerter Highway near 4700 South.
By the time police got there, he was gone. Then they got a call from Pioneer Valley Hospital saying somebody with gunshot wounds had shown up.
Police learned the victim had met up with some acquaintances, gotten into their car, and then got into an argument.
"He was shot multiple times in the abdomen, kicked out of the vehicle; he was also robbed of some cash," said Capt. Tom McLachlan, spokesman for the West Valley Police Department.
A relative picked up the 27-year-old victim from the side of the highway and took him to the hospital. He was eventually flown to the University of Utah.
McLachlan says detectives have not been able to talk much with the victim. They're hoping someone saw something last night near 4700 South and 4000 West.
