SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A cat shot in the head is heading home after being hospitalized at a Salt Lake City veterinary care facility.
Carole Johnson told Salt Lake City's KSL-TV (http://bit.ly/1TYbEsp) on Friday that bullet fragments were found in Blackjack's jaw and cheek.
Johnson and her husband found the cat bleeding from its mouth in their home near rural Ogden on Tuesday.
X-rays revealed he had been shot.
The cat was then transported to Utah Veterinary Center where multiple bullet fragments were removed.
A veterinary surgeon put a plate in Blackjack's damaged jaw.
But the cat will have to be monitored regularly to make sure bone or scar tissue grows back.
Johnson says Blackjack should not have been mistaken for a feral cat because of his collar.
