Since today is the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, it is fitting to consider the patriotic flowers. I left out petunias, impatiens and pelargoniums or garden geraniums because they have many different colors including the above listed choices. While I am not advocating you plant only these flowers, I am selecting ten of my favorite red, ten white and ten blue flowers.

While there are hundreds of red flowers, here is my list of ten favorites

Red Alcea rosea (Hollyhock) Centranthus ruber (Keys of Heaven) Heuchera sanguinea (Coral Bells) Lupinus polyphyllus (Lupine) Penstemon barbatus (Beard Tongue) Salvia coccinea (Lady-in-Red) Amaranthus (Early Splendor) Begonia semperflorens (Fibrous Begonia) Celosia plumosa (Cockscomb) Pentas

White Achillea ptarmica ‘The Pearl’ (Yarrow-Sneezewort) Cerastium tomentosum (Snow-in-Summer) Eremurus (Desert Candle of Foxtail Lily) Ipomoea (Morning Glory Vine) Anemone japonica (Japanese Anemone) Nicotiana (Flowering Tobacco) Catharanthus roseus (Vinca) Zinnia Chrysanthemum paludosum (Paludosum Daisy) Matthiola incana (Evening Stock)

Blue Ipomoea (Morning Glory Vine) Lobelia erinus (Lobelia) Delphinium ajacis (Larkspur) Delphinium Eustoma grandiflorum (Lisianthus) Pulmonaria angustifolia (Lungwort) S. farinacea (Victoria Blue) Scaevola Aquilegia (Columbine) Brunnera macrophylla (Siberian Bugloss)
