INSIDE THE ECTO 1 — The first official trailer for the new "Ghostbusters" film is now online. I'd like to call it the "Ghostbusters" reboot, or remake, or quasi sequel, but I'll be honest — I don't know what it is.

The trailer starts off with some title cards about how four scientists saved New York 30 years ago from paranormal activity. Then it jumps to today with our new crew. But then the trailer plays out like the previous films didn't exist. Not really sure what the deal is, but I was a little confused.

I've been really curious about this film because the original "Ghostbusters" is one of my favorite comedies, so I wanted to see how this new one could add to that classic or, at the very least, pay homage to it. The cast is promising with four very funny people playing the leads, but the trailer fell flat for me. Really flat.

Despite a solid track record of hilarity from the actors involved, especially Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, the trailer just didn't do it for me. The jokes seemed forced, the setups lazy and the entire movie unnecessary.

Now, I got all of that off of a two-and-a-half minute trailer, so I'm being harsh, I know that. I'm not making all my judgments about the finished product from this one trailer, but I'm just saying that I was not a fan of this preview. Hopefully I will be a fan of the film itself.

"Ghostbusters" is due in theaters on July 15.

Let us know what you thought of the trailer.
