OGDEN — A South Ogden man who told police he wanted a shootout with officers has accepted a plea deal for illegally possessing firearms.
Michael Jason Hohosh, 33, pleaded guilty Thursday to five counts of attempted possession of a firearm by a restricted person, reduced to a class A misdemeanor, and one count of possession of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor, while remaining charges were dismissed.
Hohosh was originally charged with 13 third-degree felony counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person; three class A misdemeanor counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person; and single counts of possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
As part of the deal, prosecutors agreed to recommend probation through an alternative program rather than jail time, allowing Hohosh to hand over his guns to a third party and requiring him to complete drug and mental health evaluation and treatment, home visits and drug testing.
Hohosh was arrested and charged in July 2015 after being notified that the windows on his vehicle appeared to have been shot out. Police had responded twice to his home, 825 E. 38th St., on reports of shots fired, but found nothing.

After being taken into custody, Hohosh told officers that he wanted to either go to jail or die in a shootout with officers, according to charging documents. He also told police, "I have been shooting at my house for weeks, and you guys never came and got me," charges state.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 28.
