CEDAR FORT, Utah (AP) — At least two people died when a small jet crashed west of Provo this morning. The (Provo) Daily Herald reports witnesses heard an explosion near where the plane went down south of Cedar Fort near SR-73 shortly before 10 a.m. Utah County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Spencer Cannon says the type of two-engine jet that crashed typically has a capacity of eight to 10 people.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials say the Unified police officer who was shot to death over the weekend was working overtime to pay for his cancer treatments when he was killed. Officer Douglas Barney was killed when he encountered a suspect who had fatally shot another officer following a car crash Sunday morning. Barney was 44.

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol has determined that a report of a driver shooting at a commercial vehicle on Interstate 15 near Cedar City was false. The Spectrum reports that dispatchers received a 911 call of the shooting on Sunday. Officers are now looking for the person who made the call.

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — A fire in West Valley City has displaced a family and cost them their dog. KSL-TV reports that West Valley City Fire Battalion Chief Mark Ownsbey says the house suffered about $125,000 in damage. The family dog died in the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
