SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Unified police officer is dead after he was shot by a suspect who was later killed by police in Holladay. Sheriff Jim Winder said officer Douglas Barney was shot in the head and died a few hours later at a hospital. Winder said suspect Cory Henderson had a prior criminal record and was sought by a gang task force. Barney leaves a wife and three kids. A second officer who was shot, Jon Richey, is hospitalized and his condition is improving. A woman with Henderson remains at large.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A court mandate requires Utah law enforcement agencies to record interviews with people suspected of felonies. KUTV-TV reports that the mandate also requires that those recordings are made available to the court. Salt Lake County DA Sim Gill says the new rule preserves testimony at a time when technology makes the process fairly easy.

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Authorities have identified the man who died after his vehicle struck several poles and rolled over in West Valley. The Deseret News reports that police say 26-year-old Joshua Pulido was ejected from the vehicle in the crash Saturday morning. Police are investigating whether impairment or speed contributed to the crash.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Oregon State forward Jarmal Reid tripped a referee and was ejected with 2:56 remaining, starting Utah's rally that led to a 59-53 victory last night. Reid fell to the floor when a Utah player, lunging for the ball, seemed to bump the Oregon State forward as he dribbled out from the paint. Reid complained that there was no foul call and while getting up it appeared that he made eye contact with the referee and stuck his right leg out. The ref tripped and stumbled to the court.
