MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) — A police officer in Danville, Ohio has been found dead after authorities say a woman phoned police last night to say that her ex-boyfriend was looking to kill an officer. Herschel Jones was taken into custody early this morning after the officer was found dead behind the Danville Municipal Building in Knox County.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., will be celebrated throughout the country today. The King Center in Atlanta will hold a remembrance ceremony at Ebenezer Baptist Church. In South Carolina, where the Confederate flag was removed from Statehouse grounds following the murders of nine black people in a church, civil rights leaders say there's more work to do in "education equity." At a rally in Columbia, speakers will call for the state to spend more money to help students in poorer, more rural school districts.
BAGHDAD (AP) — The Baghdad spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State group says the three Americans who went missing over the weekend are civilians. Iraqi security forces are searching for the three Americans who were reportedly kidnapped while at the home of their interpreter in the city's Dora neighborhood. An official says the Americans were taken to Baghdad's Sadr city, where all communications stopped.
LONDON (AP) — British prosecutors say four men inspired by a call by the Islamic State group to kill "disbelievers" plotted to murder a police officer or soldier on the streets of London. The men, between 21 and 26 years old, went on trial today on charges of conspiracy to murder and preparation of terrorist acts. They deny the charges.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran plans to increase oil production by 500,000 barrels per day now that sanctions have been lifted under a landmark nuclear deal with world powers. Iran's deputy oil minister says his country is determined to retake its market share, which plunged after the crippling sanctions were imposed in 2012. The U.N. nuclear agency certified Saturday that Iran has met all of its commitments under last summer's nuclear agreement, prompting the lifting of sanctions.
