COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Marches and other scheduled celebrations abound today -- the 30th anniversary of the federal holiday honoring slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The King Center in Atlanta has scheduled a remembrance ceremony at Ebenezer Baptist Church. In South Carolina, civil rights leaders plan a march to the state capitol. With the Confederate flag no longer flying above statehouse grounds, the new rallying cry is for increased education spending. All three main Democratic presidential candidates will be there.
BAGHDAD (AP) — Several missing Americans are being sought in Iraq and local media report they've been kidnapped. An Iraqi government intelligence official says the kidnapping occurred after the Americans were invited into the home of their interpreter in the southern Baghdad neighborhood of Dora. The individuals were then taken to Sadr city, where all communications stopped. The U.S. Embassy confirms several missing Americans.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Senior officials from four countries are in Kabul today, trying to chart a course out of Afghanistan's 15-year war with the Taliban. It's the second round of talks for representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States. Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani opened the meeting by calling on the Taliban to "accept the government's call for peace through dialogue."
SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Officials loyal to anti-government Shiite rebels known as the Houthis (HOO'-theez) say an air strike by the Saudi-led coalition, which supports the internationally recognized government of Yemen, has killed at least 20 people. Security officials in Yemen say the target was a building used by police in the capital, Sanaa. Several people are reportedly still trapped under the debris.
LONDON (AP) — One part of Britain's effort to fight extremism is aimed at helping Muslim women migrants feel included in the community through English language classes. Prime Minister David Cameron says a 20 million pound ($28.5 million) fund will help tens of thousands of women facing social isolation and discrimination. Some 190,000 Muslim women in England speak little or no English.
