ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina State University professor has unveiled a website about the "I Have a Dream" speech that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered in Rocky Mount months before he gave a similar speech during the March on Washington.
King scholar Jason Miller launched the First Dream website Friday at the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences in Rocky Mount. The website includes the restored audio of King's speech on Nov. 27, 1962, at a high school gymnasium in Rocky Mount.
The site also includes a brief history of King, photographs, personal letters and an annotated speech transcript.
Miller discovered the recording while researching "Origins of the Dream," his book exploring similarities between King's speeches and the poetry of Langston Hughes.
