PROVO, Utah (AP) — A co-founder of Ancestry.com has been sentenced for sexually abusing two teenage girls. The Daily Herald of Provo reports that 51-year-old Daniel Taggart was sentenced Friday to four consecutive terms of zero to five years for three counts of attempted forcible sex abuse and one for attempted sex abuse of a child. A judge ordered he serve the maximum penalty.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A blogger convicted for his role in an ATV protest ride through a closed Utah canyon has begun serving his five-day sentence. KUTV in Salt Lake City says Monte Wells reported to Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane on Friday. Wells, who also must serve three years of probation, filed to appeal his conviction earlier this week.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The long-awaited proposal that is anticipated to protect about 4 million acres of Utah land in exchange for freeing up about 365,000 acres for oil and gas development is set to be unveiled Wednesday. The Deseret News reports that the Public Lands Initiative has been in the works for over three years and will be revealed at a news conference in Salt Lake City. It has involved over 100 stakeholders and could affect some 18 million acres of eastern Utah land.
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A light earthquake struck southern Utah Friday afternoon about 33 miles northwest of St. George. The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 4.3 earthquake's epicenter was about 11 miles away from the small community of Enterprise. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
