SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A sightseeing bus has struck and killed a pedestrian in San Francisco.

Officer Carlos Manfredi said a man was crossing the street in the city's Pacific Heights neighborhood when he was hit and crushed under the wheels of a Hop-On Hop-Off Tour Bus on Saturday afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver's seat is on the right of the double-decker bus, which has an open top like the ubiquitous sightseeing buses in many scenic cities.

A witness told the San Francisco Chronicle he saw the man wave and shout at the driver as the bus was making a right-hand turn.

Police said the driver and his employer were cooperating with investigators.

In November, a runaway City Sightseeing double-decker bus crashed in downtown's Union Square, injuring 20 people.
