NEW YORK (AP) — Jeff Coby had 13 points with 11 rebounds, made big free throws late, and Columbia beat Cornell 74-70 in the Ivy League opener for both teams Saturday night.

Columbia (12-6) led by 10 with 2:55 to go. Matt Morgan's 3-pointer with 16 seconds left drew Cornell (7-8) within two at 71-69.

Both teams turned it over on their next possessions, and Coby made a free throw to make it a three-point game. The Lions sent Morgan to the line, and he made 1 of 2 and Cornell fouled on the miss. Coby made the ensuing free throws, and Troy Whiteside's last-second 3 missed.

Alex Rosenberg scored 14 points for Columbia. Kyle Castlin, Maodo Lo and Grant Mullins all contributed 12 points.

Morgan, a freshman, paced Cornell with a career-high 29 points. Darryl Smith had 12 points and Whiteside finished with 11.
