KENT, Ohio (AP) — Xavier Pollard scored 23 points, and Kellon Thomas hit 9 of 12 free throws and finished with 19 points to help Kent State beat Ohio 89-82 Saturday night.
Jaylin Walker scored 16 points and Jimmy Hall had 15 with 10 rebounds for Kent State.
Walker had six points as the Golden Flashes (12-5, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) scored 11 in a row to take a 57-46 lead with 11:50 left.
A jumper by Thomas capped a 10-3 run that pushed Kent State's lead to 16 with six minutes to play.
Ohio (10-6, 1-3) scored 17 of the next 23 points to pull within five, 80-75, on a layup by Jaaron Simmons with 1:06 remaining, but Thomas made six free throws, as Kent State hit 9 of 10 foul shots, from there to seal it.
Antonio Campbell and Kenny Kaminski scored 21 points apiece for Ohio. Kaminski hit four 3-pointers and Campbell had nine rebounds.
