VIENNA (AP) — The United States and the European Union are lifting nuclear-related sanctions on Iran, a step that Secretary of State John Kerry says will expand the horizon of opportunity for the Iranian people. The sanctions were lifted Saturday after the International Atomic Energy Agency certified that Iran had met its obligations under terms of the nuclear agreement, reached last July.

VIENNA (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu isn't joining the chorus of congratulations over the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal. Netanyahu's office says Iran hasn't given up its nuclear ambitions and is a destabilizing force in the Middle East, as well as a supporter of terrorism. It also urges world powers to monitor Iran closely and respond harshly to any violation.

VIENNA (AP) — Iran is releasing four detained Americans in exchange for seven Iranians held or charged in the United States. The four include a Washington Post reporter, a former U.S. Marine, a pastor and a fourth person. The officials say the four are to be flown from Iran to Switzerland on a Swiss plane and then taken to a U.S. military base in Germany for medical treatment.

BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian opposition activists say Islamic State militants killed dozens of government forces in wide-scale attacks on government-held areas of the eastern city of Deir el-Zour. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says at least 135 people were killed, at least 80 of them soldiers and pro-government militiamen and the rest civilians. The extremists control most of the province.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Donald Trump is running afoul of some tea party activists by attacking Republican presidential rival Ted Cruz. At a tea party convention in South Carolina today, Trump suggested that the Texas senator is owned by Citi and Goldman Sachs after using loans from the financial giants to help finance his 2012 Senate bid. Some Cruz supporters booed.
