UNDATED (AP) — Investors are reeling after another horrible day on Wall Street. The stock market capped the first two weeks of 2016 with a steep slide today that sent the Dow Jones industrial average down nearly 400 points. The Dow lost 2.4 percent. The S&P 500 fell nearly 45 points, or 2.3 percent. The Nasdaq dropped 126 points, or 2.7 percent.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee couple that won a share of the $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot says they plan to return to their jobs after winning the prize. John and Lisa Robinson say they'll take a lump sum payout of about $327 million and plan to pay off the mortgage on their small house in Munford, Tennessee, pay off their daughter's student loans and go back to work.
QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — The foreign minister of Ecuador says his country will allow Swedish prosecutors to interrogate Wikileaks founder Julian Assange at the country's embassy in London where he's lived since 2012. Assange sought refuge at the embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he's sought for questioning over sexual assault allegations made by two women.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden says the world of cancer research is on the cusp of phenomenal breakthroughs. He says this is an inflection point in the fight against cancer. Biden launched a "moonshot" initiative to hasten a cure for cancer during a visit to Philadelphia's Abramson Cancer Center today. Biden lost his son to brain cancer last year.
NEW YORK (AP) — The rugged, bearded actor who starred in the film and TV series "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams" about a mountain man and animal trainer has died. Dan Haggerty died today at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California. Haggerty was 74 and, according to his manager, had been battling cancer of the spine.
