BOISE, Idaho (AP) — For the fourth year in a row, Idaho lawmakers on an economic outlook panel have sided with Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter' revenue projections on how much money will flow into the state in the 2017 fiscal year. The governor's forecast predicts $3.34 billion in tax revenue or 4.9 percent more than the current year. Lawmakers determine forecast early during the legislative session so that they can begin hashing out if they will also approve Otter's budget priorities.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — About 100 people holding "Idaho is too great to hate" signs rallied inside the Idaho Statehouse to protest an anti-Islam and Syrian refugee resettlement presentation. Opposition to refugee resettlement has been spreading across pockets in Idaho over the past year as part of the national debate over the vetting of refugees fleeing war-torn Syria and particularly following deadly attacks in San Bernardino, California, and Paris.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A proposal designating an extra $379,000 to fight wildfires in Idaho has jumped over its initial hurdle in clearing the state Legislature. The state Land Board says that the proposal would draw equally from the general fund and dedicated fire protection funds. The measure still has to pass both the House and Senate floors before it's presented to the governor.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A former secretary of an irrigation company in Jerome accused of stealing $121,500 has pleaded guilty to grand theft. The Times-News reports that 38-year-old Judith Mary Kay Scantlin, of Twin Falls, was charged in March of 27 counts, but admitted to taking only $5,000 from her former employer A & G Irrigation. She is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 29.
