ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Hay Dude won the $65,000 Leroidesanimaux Purse for older horses by 5 1/2 lengths Thursday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by apprentice David Lopez, Hay Dude ran a mile on turf in 1:35.66 and paid $7.20, $4.40 and $2.80 as the 5-2 favorite. The 6-year-old gelding had been idle since running Nov. 12 at Del Mar.

Abbey Vale returned $5.20 and $3.60, while Soi Phet was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $4.40 to show.

The victory, worth $39,000, increased Hay Dude's career earnings to $158,039, with four wins in 19 starts.

The Britain-bred Hay Dude earned his first U.S. victory after two second-place finishes in six American starts.
